Amidst inflation and tightened budgets, club retailers are an increasingly vital option for shoppers looking to cut costs. Wholesale clubs allow consumers to purchase high-quality items at a steep discount. But often, non-member shoppers don’t recognize the potential for savings.
As a result, club retailers face a challenge: Finding and connecting with the shoppers most likely to visit, then driving them into stores to sign up for memberships.
When BJ’s Wholesale Club recognized the opportunity to attract new shoppers, they took a novel approach to new member acquisition. Instead of offering memberships at a steep discount, the retailer partnered with the Fetch app to offer consumers high-value Fetch rewards in exchange for signing up for a BJ’s membership.
While driving incremental sales and volume is what we’re known for, the Fetch app can propel more than purchasing behavior – it can also increase consumer spend and drive shoppers into stores. For club retailers like BJ’s, the platform is an invaluable tool for acquiring new members.
BJ’s Wholesale Club leveraged the Fetch app to offer rewards to consumers who had never shopped at the retailer. Customers who receive the offer, sign up for a membership and snap their receipt with the app are rewarded with Fetch points, which are redeemable for gift cards, merch and sweepstakes entries.
Brand partners can also test different offer thresholds to see which Fetch point values best incentivize customers to act or change purchase behavior. With the Fetch app, BJ’s is able to adjust offer amounts depending on how aggressively they want to target new members. This allows the brand to get the greatest possible return on their investment – and to offer rewards to the audiences most likely to redeem them.
The result? A strong incremental return and a new cohort of BJ’s members.
